The city of Barrie, in Canada, got its name in the year 1813 in the honor of Sir Robert Barrie. He held the command of the Naval-Forces of Canada. The city manifests a centre position regionally in the Central Ontario, along the Kempenfelt Bay.

Population
As of the 2021 census, the city's population was 147,829, while the census metropolitan area had a population of 212,667 residents.. On an average every house hold has 2.7 occupants as per the survey conducted in 2016. The median age in the city is about 37.2 which makes it an amazingly young city to live in.

The Tornado
The
City of Barrie is of prominence in Canada because of the most intense and large-scale tornado to ever occur in the region, a disaster that saw maximum destruction and death rate. On May 31, 1985, the tornado claimed around 90 lives and hundreds of injuries, making it the deadliest Canada had ever seen. A huge section of the population was left out of their jobs because of the damage to industries and offices.

Art and Culture
The most interesting thing is the fact that near the Kempenfelt Bay, a spirit catcher’s sculpture was created. The sculpture is around 25 metres in width and 21 metres in height. This sculpture was then donated to Barrie-Gallery Project with the intention of promoting art and inspiring the budding artists.   

Geography
Barrie is located within close proximity to major centres which includes Toronto to the south and Ottawa to the east. There are also Buffalo, New York to its south. This makes the city easily accessible to the outside world, as well as placing itself as a major trading hub. Barrie also enjoys political independence and continues to grow substantially every year.
